Discovery World

Discovery World is a comprehensive non-fiction programme for Key Stage 1 published by Heinemann and was used in some NLS training videos. The series provides non-fiction texts for shared and guided reading and writing. It’s in use in over 9 000 schools, making it the best-selling Key Stage 1 non-fiction scheme. Gill acted as Series Editor on the programme.

Covering all the NLS required non-fiction text types, the series’ subjects are carefully chosen to provide thematic links to other areas of the curriculum. The books themselves are motivating and exciting so children, especially boys, love reading them.

 The series consists of Big Books for shared reading, Big Books for shared writing, Pupil Books for core and guided reading, and Teaching Support and Planning Guides and Guided Reading Cards to reduce teacher preparation time.

Discovery World Links, the latest addition to the scheme are specially written Pupil Books for guided reading and provide models for guided writing.
