The Traveller’s Trunk focuses on developing children’s non-fiction research and writing skills in an engaging way throughout Y3-4. All these resources help pupils to feel that they are working as a team to uncover information that informs the class about life on the island. This sense of discovery adds a further dimension of purpose to their non-fiction writing!

The Traveller's TrunkThe activities:

  • support different learning styles

  • take account of varied experiences and abilities
  • provide purposeful outcomes.

The contents of The Traveller's TrunkGill and her co-writer Sylvia Karavis say:

“Children often find mastering the structure of non-fiction text types relatively easy but the subject matter does not always engage them. If they aren’t interested in castles for example, they won’t be enthusiastic readers or writers. In The Traveller’s Trunk, we have created an imaginary world that will draw children in and inspire them to write from inside it."
